Laser printer paper comes in different sizes, coatings, quality and textures

When it comes to laser printer paper  the variety of choice available seems almost limitless. Before choosing it helps to understand some basics about laser printer paper.

Laser printer paper comes in two basic surface textures:

• Matt-surfaced papers provide lower, softer contrast in images. Details do not appear real sharp. This type of laser printer paper works good as general purpose paper where the context is text and images.

• Glossy papers are used for photographic prints that must show fine details. Ideal where detail and clarify is most important.

Available laser printer paper types range from tear-resistant, and water-resistant, all the way to transparencies, carbonless, and parchment paper. They also come in different sizes such as letter, legal, tabloid, tabloid bleed, 12 x 18 and 12 x 18.5 size paper, A4 paper, A3 and A5 paper.

There are also specialty papers that include laser checks, photo paper, perforated paper, punched paper, and carbonless paper and parchment.

Do not buy multi-purpose paper if your need is for quality paper. This kind of paper is intended to work in copiers, printers and even faxes. Not surprisingly they don't work particularly well in any one of them. Although if you are looking for relatively cheap paper and don't really care about paper quality then multi-purpose paper will work just fine.
