Canon Ink, when only the best will do

Although distributed by third party vendors, only Canon Corporation produces Canon ink. The hologram and seal that accompanies every Canon product are proof of authenticity. Even Canon’s recycled cartridges carry this mark. It does not mean that less expensive compatible Canon cartridges and third party refill kits are substandard. For the most part it depends on the level of quality you expect  from compatibles versus genuine Canon inkjet cartridges and the source you choose for your compatibles.

Don't let Canon Ink costs burn a hole in your pocket

If you do choose to stay with genuine Canon cartridges there are ways of keeping the added expense from burning a hole in your pocket. Shop and compare various online merchants. It sounds obvious but all too often we tend to stick with the same merchant or the first merchant that "looks" good. Prices vary and they can vary from day to day.

If possible purchase multiples or combo packs. It's cheaper over the long run especially if you're a heavy inkjet user. To ensure that the ink stays fresh and clog free try not to store cartridges for more than 2 to 3 months before use.

You may even consider using less expensive Canon compatible cartridges for printing that is less critical. In fact, it might make sense to buy a low cost monochrome laser printer for all of your text printing and using your Canon inkjet printer for all of your photo and color based printing. This would save on your Canon ink costs while you get the best of both worlds since laser printers are known for their quality text output and laser cartridges generally last for thousands of pages before needing to be replaced.
