Bulk Ink, the solution for heavy users
For users who regularly need to refill their cartridges, bulk ink has benefits. Bulk ink not only gives the best value for the money, it saves you time as well. Bulk ink, which comes in bottles, gives uniformly good performance, be it in digital imaging systems or in desktop inkjet printers.
What is Bulk Ink
Bulk ink has 2 components:
- The carrier (also known as the vehicle)
- A colorant
The carrier, which is either water based or solvent based, is the method by which the colorant is transported to the media. The colorant absorbs and reflects specific wavelengths of light, which determine the color we perceive. According to the difference in the complexity and size of ink particles, there are two types of colorants, dye based and pigment based.
Dye based Bulk Ink
Owing to its small molecular size, the dye based bulk ink refracts very little light, giving a brilliant color. The small particular size also helps the dye to seep into any medium, even into the one without the inkjet receptor topcoat.
Pigment based Bulk Ink
Unlike dye based bulk ink, which is uni-molecular, the pigment particle is made of a number of molecules held together by stable chemical bonds.
Benefits of dye and pigment based bulk ink
- The small size of the pigment particles has a few advantages. They are resistant to photo fading and chemical agents and are less prone to humidity and environmental gases.
- Being water soluble, the dye based ink particles become mobile when the environmental humidity is high. The pigment based ink particles being water insoluble remain almost unaffected by the adverse effects of humidity.
If your printing needs entail heavy printing and requires refilling cartridges regularly, then you can benefit by purchasing in bulk quantities to maximize your savings.
