Color Inkjet Cartridges breathe life into written words, graphics and pictures

Unlike laser printers which are available in either in monochrome (black) or color models, inkjet printers all come with the inherent capability of printing in color. Print quality to a great extent is dependent on the ink used in color inkjet cartridges.

Color inks are of  two basic types: ‘dye based’ and ‘pigmented’. Dye based ink has a wide color range and gives excellent print quality. But there is a drawback as well. They diffuse slowly and take on average 10 seconds to dry. This can lead to that frustrating print smudging that we have all encountered to some extent during our printing experiences. Pigmented inks are more moisture and fade-resistant, and dry at up to 100 times the speed of dye based inks. Dye based ink is generally better suited to monochrome or black printing while pigmented ink is used primarily for color printing.

With color printing, you have the mixing of black ink with color ink. One slow drying (black ink) the other faster drying (color ink) thus causing potential problems when not mixed at the proper rate and proportions. Poor quality inks could lead to blurred print since the colors may bleed into one another before they have a chance to dry adequately.

All color printing is the result of three primary colors consisting of magenta, cyan and yellow. These colors combined with black sprayed on to the paper through miniscule nozzle assemblies on the print head gives inkjet printers their color printing capability. The primary colors can be combined in a single color cartridge as commonly seen on low end color inkjet printers or as separate color cartridges, one for each of the primary colors, as is commonly seen on higher end inkjet printers. Some top of the line inkjet printers used by professional photographers or for commercial applications utilize as many as 7 different color cartridges.
